Assalamu'alaikum wr,wb . ☺️☺️
Hari ini saya akan menjelaskan tentang :
* Nominal Past Tense
* Verbal Past Tense
*Regular vs Irregular Verbs
tanpa panjang lebar berikut penjelasannya :
SIMPLE PAST TENSE
*SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Simple Past Tense adalah Tenses (Bentuk Waktu)
yang berkenaan dengan hal-hal yang terjadi (baik berupa perbuatan, tindakan,
perkataan, situasi, kondisi maupun pemikiran) dimasa yang lalu/lampau (past
time). Simple Past Tense berbicara tentang segala sesuatu yang telah sempurna
terjadi. Sempurna disini maksudnya bahwa adalah tidak mungkin sesuatu itu akan
kembali dimasa kini (present time) atau yang akan datang (future time). Jadi,
pola kalimat-kalimat simple past tense itu harus mengandung hal-hal yang telah
sempurna terjadi.
Contoh:
Saya sakit kemarin ( I was ill yesterday).
Kalimat simple past tersebut mengandung makna
(interpretasi) sebagai berikut:
Kejadian dalam bentuk "sakit" telah
terjadi pada "saya" "kemarin". Dan, sekarang (present
time), saya tidak sakit lagi alias sudah sembuh. Dengan kata lain, pernyataan
lampau berupa [I was ill yesterday] telah sempurna terjadi dan tidak ada
kaitannya dengan sekarang ini, atau sampai sekarang.
Jadi, bila kita ingin mengatakan Suatu kejadian,
perbuatan, tindakan, pendapat, impian, keinginan, pernyataan, kondisi, situasi
maupun pemikiran yang pernah ada/terjadi dimasa yang lampau, maka gunakanlah
Pola kalimat Simple Past Tense.
****Simple Past Determiners
Simple Past Tense memiliki determiner-nya sendiri.
Dengan adanya determiner simple past ini, kita dapat mengetahui bahwa itu
adalah pola kalimat Simple Past Tense.
Adapun determiner simple past tense itu adalah:
Digunakannya BE-Past dalam pola kalimat Nominal.
Digunakannya Kata Kerja Bentuk Kedua (Verb-II) -
baik berupa Regular Verb maupun Irregular Verb - dalam pola kalimat Verbal.
Digunakannya Adverb of Time (misalnya: yesterday,
last week, a year ago, dsb).
Adapun yang menjadi inti determiner yang harus
menjadi fokus perhatian anda yaitu: Be dalam bentuk past dan kata kerja.
Membaca pola kalimat dan penanda pada simple present tense sebelumnya,
be-present digunakan untuk simple present tense dan simple present menggunakan
kata kerja bentuk pertama (verb-1). Sedangkan Simple Past Tense menggunakan:
Be-past dan Verb-2.
Be-past tersebut yakni: Was dan Were. Be [Was]
digunakan bila subjectnya berupa: [I], [He], [She] dan [It], sedangkan be
[Were] khusus untuk subject: [You], [We] dan [They].
Kata kerja kedua disebut juga dengan Past Form
Verb (bila diterjemahkan: Kata Kerja Bentuk Kedua) yang sering disingkat
Verb-II. Verb-II ini tercantum dalam bahasan Regular & Irregular Verb. Kata
Kerja kedua ini digunakan untuk seluruh jenis subject tanpa terkecuali.
Perhatikan bagaimana pola kalimat simple past tense berikut ini.
****Pola Kalimat Simple Past Tense
Seperti yang terjadi pada bahasan Simple Present
Tense, Simple Past Tense pun memiliki 2 pola kalimat dasar, yaitu:
Nominal Simple Past, dan
Verbal Simple Past
****Nominal Simple Past
Seperti pada uraian diatas, Kalimat Nominal Simple
Past Tense menggunakan to be jenis be-past yakni: was dan were. Dan, kapan kita
menggunakan [was] dan kapan [were] jelas bergantung pada apa subject yang
sedang dipakai sekarang.
Pola kalimat Positive Nominal Simple Past
Subject + Be-past + Complement
Contoh:
I was still young. (Saya masih muda waktu itu).
I was ill yesterday (Saya sakit kemarin) ->
berarti sekarang (present time) sudah sembuh/tidak sakit lagi.
She was the winner of a game. (Dia adalah
pemenangnya dalam suatu pertandingan).
They were 10 altogether (Mereka semua ada 10
orang).
Pola kalimat Negative Nominal Simple Past
Untuk membuat kalimat negatif nominal simple past,
gunakan NOT setelah be-past.
Subject + Be-past + NOT + Complement
Contoh:
I was not old yet.(Saya belum tua waktu itu).
You were not ready for the game. (Kalian tidak
siap untuk - mengikuti - pertandingan itu - waktu itu)
Pola kalimat Pertanyaan (Interrogative) Nominal
Simple Past
Untuk membuat kalimat pertanyaan ini, gunakan
Be-past diawal kalimat, atau didepan Subjectnya.
Be-past + Subject + Complement ?
Contoh:
Were you late yesterday? (Apakah kamu terlambat
kemarin?)
Was he qualified enough for the contest? (Apakah
dia cukup memenuhi syarat mengikut kontes tersebut?)
Tambahan:
Bila be-past dan subject digabung dapat disingkat
dengan ketentuan sbb:
I was = I was (Khusus subject I tidak dapat
disingkat/tetap)
You were = you're
We were = We're
They were = They're
He was = he's
She was = she's
It was = It's
Bagaimana cara membedakan antara singkatan pada
Simple Past dan Simple Present?
Untuk hal ini, dapat diketahui dari 2 hal:
Adverb of time
(Kata keterangan waktu)
Contoh:
She's late yesterday (Dia terlambat kemarin) =>
Simple Past
She's late now (Dia terlambat sekarang) =>
Simple Present.
Catatan: Ungkapan [she's late now] dapat diartikan
secara bebas: "Agaknya, dia telat kali ini".
.
Diketahui dari kalimat sebelum atau sesudahnya.
Bila dalam kalimat itu tidak terdapat Adverb of
time, maka lihat dan teliti kalimat-kalimat sebelumnya atau sesudahnya.
Contoh:
She's late. She came when the party was beginning.
(Dia terlambat. Dia datang ketika pesta sedang dimulai).
Dalam kalimat ini, kalimat [She's late] adalah
Nominal Simple Past. Hal ini ditekankan oleh kalimat seterusnya, yakni: [She
came when the party was beginning].
.
.
*VERBAL SIMPLE PAST
Kalimat Verbal Simple Past adalah sebuah kalimat
dimana didalamnya hanya ada Lexical Verb dalam bentuk Kata Kerja ke dua
(Verb-II).
Kalimat Positive Verbal Simple Past
Kalimat Positive Verbal Simple Past menggunakan
Kata Kerja bentuk kedua, baik kata kerjanya itu berupa Regular Verb maupun
Irregular Verb.
Subject + Verb II
Contoh:
I worked for CV.Appacybernet (Saya dulu/pernah
bekerja di CV.Appacybernet)
She tore the paper.( Dia dulu/pernah merobek
kertas itu).
Dalam contoh diatas dapat kita ketahui bahwa
kalimat itu berbentuk Verbal Simple Past dengan pola Kalimat Positive, oleh
karena digunakannya kata kerja kedua didalamnya, misalnya: worked, tore, dsb.
Kalimat Negative Verbal Simple Past
Pada saat kita akan mengutarakan sesuatu dalam
bentuk kalimat Negative dalam Pola Verbal di Tenses Simple Past, maka Gunakan
kata bantu (auxiliary) DID. Jadi, kata bantu [did] hanya digunakan dalam
kalimat Verbal Simple Past (baik negative maupun pertanyaan/interrogative).
Subject + Did not + Verb-I
Contoh:
I did not work for CV.Appacybernet.
Dalam contoh diatas, kita menggunakan kata bantu
[did] yang ditambah dengan NOT untuk membuat kalimat negative verbal simple
past dengan ketentuan bahwa Kata Kerja kedua - yang bila dalam kalimat Positive
Verbal Simple Past adalah berbentuk kata kerja kedua - Harus diubah ke bentuk
kata kerja pertama atau verb-present/verb-I.
Catatan:
Kata bantu [did] dan NOT dapat disingkat menjadi:
[didn't].
.
Kalimat Interrogative/Pertanyaan Verbal Simple
Past
Dalam
membuat kalimat pertanyaan/interrogative, maka letakkan kata bantu [Did] diawal
kalimat tersebut dengan ketentuan: Kata kerja kedua diubah ke kata kerja bentuk
pertama.
Did + Subject + Verb-I?
Contoh:
Did you come early yesterday? (Tidakkah kamu
datang lebih awal kemarin?)
Perhatikan bahwa, kata bantu [did] digunakan untuk
seluruh jenis subject tanpa terkecuali.
Simple Present Tense
Simple Past Tense
Tenses serba Perfect Tense
Contoh:
My father works in the garden (works adalah kata
kerja bentuk I dan digunakan dalam Simple Present Verbal)
My father worked in the garden yesterday (worked
adalah kata kerja bentuk II dan digunakan dalam Simple Past Verbal)
My father recently has worked in the garden.
(worked adalah kata kerja bentuk III dan digunakan dalam Present Perfect
Verbal)
Selain itu, kata kerja yang tercantum dalam Regular & Irregular Verb juga digunakan
dalam tenses lainnya, seperti Simple Future Tense, Past Perfect Tense, dan pola
kalimat diluar struktur Tenses, misalnya: Conditional Sentence, dsb. Namun yang
menjadi inti penggunaan bahwa: Regular & Irregular Verb hanya digunakan
dalam Pola Kalimat Verbal.
"............... Regular & Irregular Verb
Agar memudahkan kita didalam memahami perbedaan
keduanya, kita kenali saja determiner (penanda) regular & irregular verb
tersebut, sehingga bisa diketahui, mana Regular Verb dan mana Irregular Verb.
**** Regular Verb (Kata Kerja Beraturan)
Dikatakan sebagai kata kerja beraturan (Regular
Verb) oleh karena kata kerja ini - secara umum - berakhiran [-d] atau [-ed].
Contoh:
work => worked (berakhiran [ed] dengan struktur
= work + ed
talk => talked (berakhiran [ed] dengan struktur
= talk + ed
move => moved
(berakhiran [d] dengan struktur = move + d
Ketentuan penambahan
Akhiran [d] atau [ed]
pada kata kerja Regular Verb
-----------------------
Bila huruf terakhir dari kata kerja berupa vokal +
[y], maka tambahkan [ed]dibelakang [y], seperti contoh berikut ini.
VOKAL + [Y]
Contoh:
play + [ed] = played
Contoh lain: stay (stayed), dsb.
Bila huruf terakhir dari kata kerjanya berupa
konsonan + [y], maka tambahkan[ed] dengan huruf [y] terinfleksi (baca: berubah)
menjadi [i] sehingga menjadi: [i] + [ed], yang berasal dari: [y] + [ed].
KONSONAN + [Y]
Contoh:
fry = fr + {y->i} + ed => fried
try = tr + {y->i} + ed => tried
cry = cr + {y->i} + ed => cried
*****Irregular Verb (Kata Kerja Tak-beraturan)
Kata kerja tak-beraturan (Irregular Verb) adalah
kata kerja yang tidak mendapatkan akhiran [d] atau [ed] pada kata kerjanya.
Kata kerja tak-beraturan ini memiliki aturan tersendiri dan setiap atau
beberapa kata kerja yang ada memiliki perbedaan dan juga ditemukan ada
kesamaan. Penjelasan mengenai ini, silahkan simak uraian berikut ini.
Kata kerja Tak-Beraturan (Irregular Verb) memiliki
3 bentuk ciri-ciri pada kata kerjanya, yakni:
Kata kerjanya tidak berubah, baik pada bentuk kata
kerja I, verb-II atau verb-III.
Contoh kata kerja jenis ini:
cut - cut - cut
put - put - put
let - let - let
set - set - set
shut - shut - shut
dsb.
Kata kerja diatas tidak mengalami perubahan
sedikitpun.
.
Kata kerjanya mengalami infleksi dengan bentuk
infleksi sebagai berikut:
1. Infleksi dari huruf [-ear] menjadi [-ore dan
-orn]
Contoh:
bear, menjadi: [bore] dan kemudian [born]
Contoh lain: tear-tore-torn, wear-wore-worn, dst
.
2. Infleksi dari huruf [-uy] menjadi [-ought]
Contoh:
buy, menjadi [bought] dan lalu tetap [bought]
Contoh lain: fight-fought-fought.
.
3. Infleksi dari huruf [-ow] menjadi [-ew dan
-own]
Contoh:
grow, menjadi [grew] dan lalu menjadi [grown]
